What are the things a husband must spend on for his wife? And is he only required to clothe her if her clothes are torn or worn out?

The husband must provide for his wife and clothe her in a reasonable manner, according to his means, even if she is wealthy. He does not have the right to obligate her to cover her own expenses except with her consent.

If the wife stipulated working at the time of marriage, the husband must allow her to do so, unless the nature of the work changes to become forbidden (haram), or it requires travel without a mahram (unmarriageable kin). The wife's salary is her right, and the husband is not entitled to take from it except with her cheerful consent.

However, if the wife's work was not stipulated at the time of marriage, the husband may allow her to work in exchange for her contribution to expenses, based on an agreement between them, because her time and effort are his right.

Both spouses are advised to avoid accountability that transforms the marital relationship into a business transaction. The wife should contribute from her own good will that which helps her husband with the difficulties of life, and the husband should refrain from taking money from her; because that negatively affects his role as maintainer. A distinction must be made between what the wife contributes as a contribution (which she has no right to demand back) and what she gives as a loan (which she has the right to demand back).
