Is it permissible to severely beat the jinn possessing a body with a stick or similar object during ruqyah (Islamic exorcism), if it refuses to leave?

The أهل السنَّة (People of the Sunnah (definition)) unanimously agree on the possibility of a jinn touching a human and entering their body. The lawful method for treating an epileptic (or one afflicted by jinn possession) is through ruqyah (definition) (Islamic exorcism), and the jinn is commanded to leave. It is authentically reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck the chest of an afflicted person and commanded the jinn to leave, without using a stick or a whip. It has been narrated from the Salaf (pious predecessors) that it is permissible to strike the afflicted person with a stick or a whip, but this striking is not felt by the afflicted person and is directed at the jinn. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah explicitly stated this, and Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned his teacher Ibn Taymiyyah's experience of striking an afflicted person with a stick without the afflicted person feeling the blows.

The permissibility of striking the afflicted person is conditional upon the following: 1. That the striking be done by an expert in the relevant areas (of the body) and the condition of both the afflicted person and the jinn, in order to avoid severe harm or the death of the afflicted person. 2. That the striking does not fall upon the afflicted person but rather upon the jinn. This is evidenced by the absence of marks on the body and the afflicted person not feeling it.

Whoever is not proficient in this should limit themselves to a gentle strike on the chest, or to ruqyah, and saying, "Leave, O enemy of Allah." Sheikh al-Albani indeed disapproved of severe striking that could lead to the death of the afflicted person.
