What is the ruling on one who asks about fabrications against Islam but does not answer?

It is incumbent upon the scholar to teach knowledge whenever an opportunity arises. Among the greatest opportunities is when a responsible individual asks him about a new issue. He must then issue a fatwa based on the truth he knows, unless he fears a predominant harm or damage. Otherwise, it would be considered concealment of knowledge. Severe warnings have been mentioned regarding the concealment of knowledge in the Almighty's saying: "Indeed, those who conceal what We sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear for the people in the Scripture - those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever is asked about knowledge and conceals it, Allah will bridle him with a bridle of fire on the Day of Resurrection."

The Muslim community must cooperate in refuting the misconceptions spread by the enemies of Islam, to refute them and to keep the Muslim masses firm in their religion. The common people must avoid looking into the words of those who slander Islam.
