Is seeking knowledge for the purpose of specializing in refuting contemporary misconceptions and responding to them considered a form of disputing with fools, which is forbidden in the weak hadith whose meaning has been authenticated?

Whoever learns knowledge to argue with fools and boast over them, or to boast over scholars, or to attract people to himself, will be in the Fire. Ahadith to this effect have been reported, and some scholars have authenticated them due to supporting evidence. The correct intention for seeking knowledge is to act upon it first, then to teach it to people and defend the Sharia. There is no harm in debating with kindness and a good intention, such as inviting people to Islam and refuting misconceptions.
