What is the share of the wife, mother, and only son from a sum of $7,000 left by the deceased?

If a person passed away, leaving behind only a mother, a wife, and a son, then the mother receives one-sixth (1/6) due to the presence of a lineal descendant, as Allah the Almighty states: {And for his parents, each of them is to have a sixth of what he leaves if he has a child.} (An-Nisa: 11). The wife receives one-eighth (1/8) due to the presence of a lineal descendant, as Allah the Almighty states: {But if you have a child, then for them is an eighth of what you leave.} (An-Nisa: 12). The son receives the remainder by way of residuary inheritance (ta’sib), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Give the Fara’id (prescribed shares) to those who are entitled to them; then whatever remains is for the closest male heir."

The inheritance is divided into twenty-four shares: the mother receives four shares (one-sixth), the wife receives three shares (one-eighth), and the son receives seventeen shares (the remainder).

It is advisable to refer the matter to the Sharia courts or consult scholars of knowledge to accurately identify all heirs and ensure there are no wills, debts, or other rights that take precedence over the rights of the heirs.
