These phrases are allusive and can be construed as divorce, and divorce occurs if intended, which is the view of the majority. However, Abu Hanifa holds that it is not a divorce even if the husband intends it. The most authoritative view is that divorce occurs if intended. If this phrasing is repeated and divorce is intended: if the intention is to confirm a previous divorce, then one divorce occurs; if the intention is to initiate a new divorce, then three divorces occur.
