What is the amount of expiation (kaffarah) for a pregnant woman breaking her fast in Ramadan due to a legitimate excuse, if she is unable to make up the days (qada') before the next Ramadan, and must it be paid only in Ramadan, and is it permissible to give it to a single person?

A woman who broke her fast due to a valid Shar'i (Islamic legal) excuse must make up the missed days of Ramadan before the next Ramadan arrives. If it is impossible to make up the fast due to a sudden pregnancy that occurs before Ramadan, leaving insufficient time for the make-up, then some scholars do not obligate her to pay the expiation for delaying (kaffarat al-ta'khir) due to the absence of negligence. As for whoever was able to make up the fast after Eid al-Fitr but delayed it without a valid excuse until the next Ramadan arrived, they are obligated to pay the fidyah (expiation) of 750 grams of the staple food of the country, provided they were not ignorant of the prohibition of delaying. This expiation is sufficient for each day by feeding one poor person, and it can be paid before, during, or after making up the fast.
