Is it permissible to say: "I am content with God's decree; even if I were among the people of Hellfire," and does the Prophet, may God's prayers and peace be upon him, praise his Lord in all circumstances, including the state of the people of Hellfire, as implied by the hadith: "Praise be to God in every circumstance, and I seek refuge in God from the state of the people of Hellfire"?
The combines praising Allah in every state with seeking refuge from the state of the people of Hellfire. It points to two matters:
1. Praising Allah for the existence of Hellfire and the torment of its inhabitants, for that is part of His wisdom, glory be to Him. And refuge is sought from it due to its severity. 2. All states contain benefit for the servant, except that which leads to the torment of Hellfire. Tribulations elevate one by expiating sins or raising ranks.
As for the statement, "I am content with Allah's decree even if I were among the people of Hellfire," it is incorrect. True contentment only occurs after the decree has come to pass.
