Is wearing the dishdasha (thobe) in Palestine considered an act of defiance against the local customs, especially given that scholars, sheikhs, the Tablighi Jamaat, and Salafis wear it? And is wearing it a Sunnah or an emulation of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, based on the hadith, "The most beloved garment to the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, was the thobe"?

The fatwa did not state that wearing a qamis (long shirt/tobe) is contrary to the dress of the people of Palestine; rather, the questioner himself mentioned this. The fatwa stated: "If the garment you wear differs from the dress of the people of the land..." If wearing a qamis is widespread and worn by scholars and others, then it is not considered a "garment of fame" (libas al-shuhrah), especially since some jurists even recommend it. A garment of fame is that which goes against the customary dress of the people of a land without an excuse, and some scholars stipulate the intention of seeking elevation or displaying humility. Whoever wears a qamis as an emulation of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, will be rewarded, even if people rarely wear it.
