Is it obligatory to buy gifts for the wife's family, just as for one's mother and sisters, knowing that this is financially burdensome and causes problems during holidays?

Exchanging gifts among Muslims is religiously encouraged and has benefits in this world and the hereafter, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Exchange gifts, and you will love each other," and his saying: "Exchange gifts, for indeed a gift removes grudges from the chest." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to give and accept gifts. Exchanging gifts among relatives is more deserving and better. A person is not religiously obligated to take gifts for their family or their spouse's family, but it should be done if possible, especially if they are in need, while seeking reward from Allah. What cannot be afforded, Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. And whoever does not receive a gift should not become angry; rather, they should seek an excuse.
