What is the ruling on gifts and money given to the groom on his wedding night?

The true religion (Islam) encourages good deeds and the establishment of bonds of brotherhood and love among Muslims. The believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion are like one body. Congratulating a brother upon receiving a blessing and sharing in his joy is legally prescribed (required by Sharia). Exchanging gifts is one of the causes for increasing love, for indeed, a gift removes ill-will from the heart, and it may also assist the groom with the expenses of marriage. However, if the intention behind the gift is showing off and boasting, then there is no good in it. Islam encourages strengthening ties between Muslims through congratulations, gifts, and visits, away from boasting and showing off.
