Am I sinful for telling my friend about my love for a young man, and what can I do to lower my gaze from him and stop thinking about him?

Mixed-gender education may stir feelings of love and admiration. One should repent of this love and avoid communicating with the young man or thinking about him, and lower one's gaze from him. The best remedy is to marry him if possible, in a manner that preserves modesty. If marriage is not feasible, one should resort to the lawful remedies for treating 'ishq (passionate love), along with sincere repentance and adherence to Allah's commands, and lowering the gaze.
