What should I do regarding the paternal aunt of orphaned children who is extravagant with the charity money I provide for them, leaving the children without necessities?
Allah Almighty has forbidden extravagance and squandering, saying: (And eat and drink, but be not excessive), and (And do not squander wastefully. Indeed, those who squander are brothers of the devils). He also forbade consuming the orphan's property. The mother of the orphans, who squanders money, should be advised to stop what she is doing. If she does not abandon her squandering, it is better to provide the orphans' basic needs such as clothing and expenses instead of money. The mother's extravagance should not prevent helping the orphans, for sponsoring an orphan is among the best acts of drawing closer to Allah. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who sponsors an orphan, whether his own or another's, I and he will be like these two in Paradise," and he indicated his index and middle fingers.
