Is there a difference between saying "peace be upon the Prophet" and "blessing him"?

It is prescribed for a Muslim to invoke blessings and peace upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, based on the Almighty's saying: (Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and greet him with [explicit] salutation.) The angels convey the greetings of the Ummah to him. It is obligatory to greet him in the Tashahhud and upon entering and exiting the mosque. Greeting him is one of his unique privileges, as the greetings of the Ummah reach him, and the one who greets him is rewarded with ten greetings from Allah. As for supplicating for blessings upon him, it involves asking Allah for goodness, increase, and growth for him, as in the formulation of the Ibrahimiyyah prayer. Peace upon him means requesting safety from evils and faults, and blessings mean asking Allah for the continuation and increase of goodness.
