A Muslim is not rewarded for what he spends on building in excess of his needs, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, a Muslim will be rewarded for everything he spends, except for something he places in this earth [i.e., excessive building]." As for what he needs for dwelling, he will be rewarded for it, just like anything else he spends on himself and his family.
