What happens to a morsel if it falls from one's hand and is left for Satan to eat, and does it disappear from the earth?

If a morsel of food falls, one should remove any impurity from it and eat it, not leaving it for Satan, and lick one's fingers after eating, because the blessing in food may be in any part of it. Scholars have differed on the meaning of "leaving it for Satan." Some believe that leaving it is a waste of God's blessing and a disdain for it, which reflects a pride that Satan loves. Others, and this is the more preponderant view, believe that Satan truly eats, and that this is established in Islamic law, and that the lack of material decrease does not negate the decrease in blessing.
