Should some of the lands that a father bought for his sons to build upon be sold so that he can perform the Hajj obligation?
For Hajj to be obligatory, one must have the financial ability, which includes provisions and a ride, and this must be in excess of the expenses of those whose maintenance is obligatory upon him. Performing the obligatory Hajj takes precedence over acquiring land for any future purpose. If a Muslim is able to perform Hajj, he must hasten to do so immediately, even if he needs to sell some of his land to cover the expenses of Hajj. He should have a good opinion of Allah, believing that Allah will compensate him for what he has spent in His cause.
