Fleeting thoughts are not held against a person, whereas accountability is for the resolve and determination to commit a sin. Masturbation is forbidden by the majority of scholars, and the recommended solutions for those afflicted by it are fasting or marriage, because marriage "is more apt to lower the gaze and guard chastity." If lust becomes overwhelming and there remains no option but masturbation or fornication, then committing masturbation is lesser of two evils than committing fornication. It is advised to avoid being alone with handsome young men, to choose righteous friends who are older, and to avoid entertainment that incites desires.
