How many destitute people must be fed for expiation of an oath, and is it permissible to feed instead of fast when one is able to fast, and what is incumbent upon one who has broken many oaths in the past?

The expiation for an oath offers a choice between feeding ten poor persons, clothing them, or emancipating a slave. If one is unable to do these three, then they must fast for three days. It is not permissible for the one who broke an oath to expiate by fasting if they are capable of performing the first three options. If oaths are repeated and then broken, and no expiation has been made for them, then a separate expiation is due for each oath. However, if the subject of the oath is the same, and the repetition of the oath was not intended to establish a new one, then only one expiation is required.
