What is the meaning of Abraham's saying: "If there is no good for us in what we dislike, there is no good for us in what we like"?

Ibrahim al-Taymi intended that God's decree is good in every circumstance. Whatever God destines for us, even if it is disliked, contains good for us. A person may dislike something, yet it contains benefit and good for him, as Allah Almighty said: "And perhaps you dislike a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you." Whoever does not perceive God's favor upon him in what he dislikes, and that God decreed it for great wisdoms, and that God is more merciful to His servant than a mother is to her child, then he is deprived. This is because God's favor in what is disliked may be greater than His favor in what is liked. Therefore, one must perceive the good in both.
