Does the repentance in the Hadith: "By Allah, I seek Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him one hundred times a day" refer to seeking forgiveness or to another meaning?

The abundance of the Prophet's, peace and blessings be upon him, seeking forgiveness and repentance has been mentioned in many hadiths, among them his saying: "O people, repent to Allah, for I repent to Him one hundred times a day," and his saying: "By Allah, I seek Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him more than seventy times a day." Repentance is turning away from sin and returning from error, and from all that distances one from Allah Almighty. Scholars have interpreted his, peace and blessings be upon him, repentance as being for periods of neglecting remembrance (dhikr), or for the self-talk that affects the heart, or for leaving what is better (tark al-awla). As for seeking forgiveness (istighfar), it is asking for forgiveness, and his, peace and blessings be upon him, doing so was to demonstrate servitude and gratitude to Allah Almighty, and so that his Ummah would follow his example, or due to his engagement in permissible worldly matters that might veil him from remembrance, which he would then consider a sin relative to his elevated status.
