Is it permissible to use Zakat funds to print summaries and explanations of Fiqh and Quran, and to organize recreational trips for the women and girls being taught?

The recipients of zakat are specified in the Quran as: the poor, the needy, those employed to collect it, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, for freeing captives, those in debt, in the cause of Allah, and the wayfarer. The category "in the cause of Allah" is specific to those engaged in jihad (struggle) according to the majority of scholars. Some scholars have extended this to include brilliant students of knowledge whose impact is anticipated. Zakat funds must be transferred into the possession of these students, not spent on printing summaries.

It is not permissible to spend zakat funds on recreational trips while many Muslims are starving. As for spending zakat on printing books for da'wah (proselytization), some scholars have permitted it, but the more cautious approach is not to spend zakat funds on this, and instead to allocate them to their established recipients. Da'wah activities can be financed through donations, sadaqat (charities), and endowments.
