What is the correct way to seek forgiveness (Istighfar), and does the virtue of seeking forgiveness mentioned in Surat Nuh for bringing forth offspring apply to bringing forth wealth and gardens?

It is permissible to frequently seek Allah's forgiveness (Istighfar) for the purpose of seeking wealth and children, based on the Almighty's saying: (Then I said, 'Seek forgiveness from your Lord; indeed, He is All-Forgiving. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [abundance] and will provide you with wealth and children and will make for you gardens and make for you for you rivers.') [Nuh: 10-12].

Among the established forms of Istighfar from the Prophet, peace be upon him, are:

1. The master of Istighfar: "O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me, and I am Your slave, and I am on Your covenant and promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me, and I acknowledge my sin. So forgive me, for none forgives sins except You."

2. The supplication of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "My Lord, forgive me my mistakes, my ignorance, my extravagance in all my affairs, and what You know better than I do. O Allah, forgive me my sins, my deliberate wrongs, my ignorance, and my jests, and all of that is with me. O Allah, forgive me what I have sent forth and what I have delayed, and what I have concealed and what I have made apparent. You are the Foremost, and You are the Last, and You are over all things competent."

3. Saying: "My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance, for indeed You are the Acceptor of Repentance, the Most Merciful" one hundred times.

4. Saying: "I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Almighty, whom there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him."

5. Saying: "O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins except You. So grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me, for indeed You are the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful."
