Is it permissible to go to charities and orphanages while trying to avoid mixing, or is it better to stay at home to block the door to temptation?
The default for women is to stay in their homes; this is more pious for their religion and more pleasing to their Lord. This directive was addressed to the Mothers of the Believers and extends to believing women. Imam Ahmad narrated from Umm Humayd that she asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about her prayer with him, and he informed her that her prayer in her home was better for her. As Sheikh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim said, "If it is legislated for a woman to pray in her home, then it is better, and preventing mixing [of genders] is even more paramount."
Assistance to charitable organizations and orphanages can be provided from home. If there is work such as teaching or care, coordination with those in charge of the organizations is necessary to prevent mixing.
