What is the ruling on men wearing silver watches?

Scholars differed regarding a man wearing a silver watch or similar items. The Hanbalis held three opinions: prohibition, dislike (makruh), and permissibility, provided there is no imitation (of women), extravagance, or resemblance to a cross. They based their reasoning on analogy with a silver ring, and that prohibition requires evidence. The Malikis, on the other hand, deemed silver ornaments for men forbidden, with the exception of a ring and some other specific items. We did not find an explicit statement from the Hanafis on this issue. The preferred view among the Hanafis and Hanbalis is the permissibility of a small amount of gold in a silver ring, provided the gold is less than the silver. As for the Shafi'is, they have two views on silver ornaments for men: prohibition and permissibility, as long as it does not involve imitating women. The more scrupulous approach is to avoid wearing it, to steer clear of the disagreement.
