The question

Does the believer enter Paradise or the Garden directly after his death, taking into account the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, concerning the martyrs that they are in Paradise, and his saying, "The grave is either a pit of Hellfire or a garden of the Gardens of Paradise"?

The answer

The souls of the believers are blessed in the Barzakh (in their graves). The souls of the martyrs are in the crops of green birds, roaming in the gardens of Paradise, eating from its fruits, drinking from its rivers, and perching on lamps suspended from the ceiling of the Throne of the Most Merciful. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, bearing witness to his companions and the martyrs that they are in Paradise means that they are blessed in their graves with the blessings of Paradise, and with what they will ultimately attain in the abode of honor and eternity.
