Is it a sin to curse inanimate objects or intangible things, and what are the consequences of that?

A Muslim should avoid cursing and reviling, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was never obscene, nor a curser, nor an insulter," and "A believer is not a curser." For this reason, scholars have prohibited cursing anything that is not deserving of a curse, such as animals, inanimate objects, and the wind. For if a curse does not find its proper target, it returns upon its utterer, according to the hadith (definition) of Ibn Abbas: "Do not curse the wind, for it is commanded, and whoever curses something that is not deserving of it, the curse returns upon him."
