Is the Arabic language a creation of God?

This issue is one of the newly introduced matters that the Salaf did not discuss. The correct approach is to explain it in detail: it should not be said that it is created absolutely, which might give the impression that the Qur’an is created; nor should it be said that it is uncreated absolutely, which might give the impression that the speech of creation is uncreated. The correct view is that the genus of the letters with which Allah spoke, in the Qur’an and elsewhere, is not created. Allah’s speech is not created, neither its letters nor its meanings. As for the letters and words spoken by people, they are created. The rulings concerning letters and words differ based on who speaks them. The entire Qur’an, its letters and meanings, is uncreated, while all human speech, its letters and meanings, is created. It has been reported that Imam Ahmad repudiated those who said that the letters are created. The human being, along with their sounds and movements, is created, whereas the Lord, Exalted is He, with His attributes, words, and actions, is uncreated. Allah’s speech that people recite is His uncreated speech, while the movements and sounds they use to recite it are created. What is written in the Qur’anic manuscripts from His speech is uncreated, while the ink used to write it is created. This is what the People of the Sunnah and the Community have unanimously agreed upon. Whoever says otherwise has deviated from the Law and innovated in religion.
