Do the parents have the right to refuse their son's secret marriage due to his young age, his lack of a degree or a job, and the bad character of the woman he wants to marry, and is the son's action considered a major sin?

A son must obey his parents when they order him to avoid marrying a specific woman because obeying and honoring them is obligatory, and because marriage is not obligatory. This is further emphasized if there is a compelling reason to avoid this woman, such as her having a bad reputation. Parents must not accuse a woman without proof. Marriage does not require obtaining a certificate or being old; rather, it requires the ability to provide for and maintain the wife. We advise the brother to obey his parents seeking Allah's pleasure.
