Is it permissible to use a paper with supplications written on it during Qiyam prayer, and does using toothpaste break the fast?

The legitimacy of supplication (du'a) in the Witr Qunut for both the Imam and the individual is established by the Sunnah (definition). Even if the Witr Qunut was not established by the Prophet's (peace be upon him) own actions, it was established by the actions of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Scholars have differed regarding the specific timing of Qunut: some believe it should not be performed consistently, others believe it should only be performed in the last half of Ramadan (definition), while others believe it should be performed throughout Ramadan or all year long. Lengthening the Qunut supplication excessively is not advisable and is disliked. One should limit it to the reported supplications or concise Prophetic supplications. If the Imam or worshiper cannot memorize the reported supplication, there is no harm in choosing any supplication, as there is no specific formula for Qunut. The worshiper must strive for contemplation and presence of heart during the supplication. There is no harm in using toothpaste for a fasting person, provided one takes care not to swallow anything from it.
