What is the ruling on reporting a drug-addicted father, what are the consequences of such reporting, and is one sinful for wishing death upon their addicted parent?
Allah has made it obligatory to be good to and dutiful towards one's parents, even if they are disbelievers or wicked. Therefore, one must honor their father as much as possible, advising him and inviting him to establish prayer and abandon drugs with kindness, without violence or abuse. It is permissible to refer the matter to the Sharia court regarding his dereliction in providing the obligatory financial support, or to prevent harm if it exists. However, if he provides the financial support and there is no harm, then a complaint is not permissible. It is not an act of dutifulness to wish for the father's death in this state, because one who abandons prayer is a disbeliever and a drug addict is a transgressor. They are in need of prayers for guidance and righteousness, not prayers against them.
