Is it obligatory to point with the finger during the sitting of rest (jalsat al-istirahah), in accordance with Imam al-Tirmidhi's general hadith about pointing, or is it an exception due to the absence of supplication therein?

The majority of scholars hold that pointing with the finger occurs only in the sitting of the tashahhud. However, Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen believes that pointing also occurs in the sitting between the two prostrations (sajdatayn), citing the hadith of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) as evidence. As for the jalsat al-istirahah (sitting for rest), there is no pointing in it according to the majority of scholars, because pointing is specific to the tashahhud. Nor is there pointing in it according to Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, because the reason for pointing is du'a (supplication), and the jalsat al-istirahah does not involve du'a.
