Why is it obligatory to honor a mother who is devoted to raising and educating her children, yet disbelieves in God?

One must verify what the mother said before ruling it as disbelief (kufr), for not every statement or act described as disbelief is actually so. Moreover, there is disbelief that expels one from the faith and lesser disbelief. Issuing a ruling of disbelief has its controls, conditions, and impediments. Even if the mother were to be considered a disbeliever, filial piety and kindness towards her are not negated for the daughter, within her capacity. It is forbidden to be undutiful towards her with any word or action that harms her. There is no accountability for inner hatred. Among the best forms of piety is to strive for her guidance through supplication, advice, and seeking out someone who can advise her, for he who points to good is like the one who does it, and guiding a man is better than red camels.
