What is the recompense for fulfilling a covenant and what is the recompense for betraying it?
The Sharia has mandated fulfilling covenants and agreements, and it has described those who break them as disbelievers, as happened with the Children of Israel. Allah and His Messenger have mentioned the fulfillment of covenants in many verses and hadiths. Allah has ordained great fruits in this world and the Hereafter for fulfilling covenants, among them: that it is a characteristic of the pious, a means of attaining piety, it brings security and preserves rights, it expiates sins, and it grants entry into Jannah. Treachery is the opposite of fulfillment; it is one of the traits of hypocrisy. There are hadiths that condemn betrayal and threaten betrayers with severe punishments in the Hereafter.
