What are the multiple paths to draw closer to Allah through good deeds, along with a preference among them?

There are different ways to draw closer to Allah, the Almighty. Some draw closer through asceticism and abandoning permissible things, while others innovate in religion. As for the people of truth, they adhere to the Quran and Sunnah. Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned four categories of worshippers:

1. Those who believe that the best acts of worship are the most difficult for the soul.

2. Those who believe that the best acts of worship are detachment and asceticism in this world.

3. Those who believe that the most beneficial acts of worship are those that have a benefit extending to others.

4. The fourth category (who are the masters of worshippers) believe that the best acts of worship are to strive for the pleasure of the Lord at all times, in accordance with what that time necessitates and its function. They move through the stations of servitude according to what the situation and time require, and they do not restrict themselves to a specific type of worship, but rather follow Allah’s pleasure wherever it may be.
