What is the ruling on praying over a martyr?

The scholars differed concerning the washing of the martyr, praying over him, and shrouding him in clothes other than those he died in. The correct view, adopted by the majority of jurists, is that he is not washed, nor is he shrouded in clothes other than those he was killed in, nor is the funeral prayer performed over him. This is the preponderant opinion, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "He commanded that they be buried with their blood, and he did not pray over them, nor were they washed."
