What is the Sharia ruling for a girl to speak with a young man in Islam? Does this include completely cutting off communication with those she used to be friends with, or is it permissible to reply to their reassuring messages? Is it a condition for repentance that she dislikes these young men, or is disliking the sin sufficient? And is it permissible to pray for their forgiveness and to meet them in Paradise as brothers?

A Muslim woman must avoid foreign men unless there is a need. When speaking, she must not be compliant in speech, as stated in Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 32, because compliant speech is a means to what is forbidden. Therefore, scholars have prohibited greeting a young foreign woman, and it is even more so prohibited to be expansive in speech and inquire about her health.

The questioner must cease communication with foreign men. It is preferable to close her old accounts to cut off temptations. If she needs an email, it should be with a new identity.

One must despise past sins, not individuals. These young men should not be despised except to the extent that they call for sins or commit them. It is permissible to supplicate for their guidance without being preoccupied with them.
