Is a person's tearing of his shirt out of anger considered "shaqq al-juyub" (tearing of the garments), and what is the expiation for this act?

A friend tearing his shirt when angry is not considered "rending the garments," which is forbidden. However, if he did it voluntarily, he has committed a forbidden act by destroying his garment without a legitimate reason. His expiation for this would be sincere repentance and performing some acts of obedience. If his mind was overwhelmed at the time of anger, then there is no sin upon him. It is advisable to counsel him to resist anger and avoid breaking things or tearing clothes.
