Is it permissible to secretly marry a girl who refuses to marry the suitor chosen for her by her father, who sometimes beats her?
Firstly: The questioner must know that Allah sees everything, and that the relationship that developed between them is not permissible (halal) and is from the footsteps of Satan. Love is a matter of the heart for which a person is not blamed, but he is blamed for the causes leading to it and persisting in it.
Secondly: If they wish to marry, the young man must pursue the lawful (shar'i) path by requesting the girl's hand from her father. If that is not possible and marriage cannot be achieved, then each of them should leave the other, because "whoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better."
Thirdly: It is not permissible to consider completing the marriage secretly without the guardian's (wali) permission. The validity of the marriage is conditioned upon the guardian and public declaration (ishhar), based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Any woman who marries without the permission of her guardians, her marriage is invalid," (he said it three times), and his saying: "Proclaim the marriage." So, it is not permissible except with these two.
Fourthly: A father does not have the right to force his daughter to marry someone she dislikes, but this matter is not the concern of the young man; it pertains to the girl and her family.
