Did the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) continue to live with their parents after marriage, or did they move to a separate house?

The prevailing custom in the lives of the Companions was that when a man married, he would acquire a house independent of his father's house. This is indicated by narrations such as Umar's visit to the house of his son Abdullah and his wife Safiyya, and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) visit to the house of Abdullah ibn Amr, which demonstrates the independence of their residences. This is further affirmed by the distinction made in the Holy Quran between the houses of fathers and sons. Nevertheless, some might live with their fathers in the same dwelling, as happened with Fatima bint Qais, who lived with her husband's relatives in one house, but this does not necessarily mean sharing facilities.
