Is the meaning of "Luti" (sodomite) in the phrase: "Even if a sodomite were to bathe with every drop of water from the sky, he would meet Allah impure," a person who commits the major abomination? And does purity here mean that he is impure, and his prayer is not accepted?

Ibn al-Jawzi and al-Dhahabi narrated from Fudayl ibn Iyad, and Ibn Abi al-Dunya and al-Bayhaqi narrated from Mujahid that if a person who commits sodomy were to bathe with every drop of water in the heavens and the earth, he would not meet Allah in a state of purity, or he would remain impure. This meaning has been attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in weak or fabricated hadiths, including: "If a person who commits sodomy were to bathe with the water of the seas, he would not come on the Day of Resurrection except in a state of major ritual impurity (junub)," and "The two who commit sodomy, even if they bathe with the water of the sea, it will not suffice them unless they repent," and "The sodomite, if he were to bathe with every drop that descends from the heavens... Allah would not purify him from his impurity unless he repents," and "If the one who commits the act of the people of Lot were to purify himself with seven seas, he would not meet Allah except in a state of impurity." These hadiths are fabricated or denounced.

The meaning of this statement is that the spiritual impurity resulting from polytheism and grave sins cannot be removed by physical ablution, but rather by sincere repentance. Physical ablution removes bodily ritual impurity, but it does not purify the inner impurity of the heart resulting from grave sins. This meaning is well-known among the Salaf.
