What is the ruling on one who repeatedly commits apostasy through words such as mockery and insult to religion, knowing that Allah is the Creator and repeatedly repenting? Does Allah accept his repentance despite his repeated apostasy dozens of times? Will his life be made easy for him if he returns to the truth? And what is the interpretation of the verse: "Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives anything less than that for whoever He wills" in his case?

The repentance of an apostate is accepted by Allah, by scholarly consensus, even if their apostasy is repeated, as long as they do not reach the death rattle. Repentance erases all sins, including polytheism (shirk) and disbelief (kufr), based on His (the Almighty's) saying: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" As for His (the Almighty's) saying: "Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills," this refers to one who dies as a polytheist and has not repented. Whoever falls into apostasy must hasten to repent and turn away from the whispers of Satan.
