It is not permissible to watch copyrighted films without the permission of their owners, because that constitutes an infringement upon their rights, which are protected by Islamic law. The criterion for permissibility of watching is the permission of the entity that owns the rights to the film. Merely translating films does not grant the translating entity publishing rights.
