What is the ruling on dividing a girl's hair into four sections, and is there any doubt concerning it?

It is permissible to style a young girl's hair in four braids, provided that it does not involve imitation of disbelieving women or serve as a symbol for prostitutes. This is based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibition of men imitating women and women imitating men, and his saying: "Whoever imitates a people is one of them."
