Are the two methods for leasing taxis—either for a fixed amount or by splitting profits in half after fuel—lawful in Islamic law?

The first method is a valid lease (ijarah), and there is no problem with it, provided the other conditions of the lease contract are met. As for the second method, there is a disagreement among scholars regarding its validity, but the preponderant opinion is that it is valid.
