Where did the people of 'Ad live, are they the builders of the pyramids, and is "Iram" a city, a person's name, or a pyramid?

Rather, they used to inhabit Al-Ahqaf near Hadhramaut, not the pyramids. Interpreters differed on the meaning of "Iram" with several opinions: a city (Damascus, Alexandria, a city built by Shaddad ibn 'Ad), or an ancient nation, or a tribe from the people of 'Ad, or the grandfather of 'Ad ('Ad ibn Iram). Ibn Kathir favored the view that "Iram" was the grandfather of the first 'Ad, and that the Almighty's saying: {Iram of the pillars} describes the tribe in its strength and might, not a city. As for linking "Iram" with "pyramid" (haram), there is no basis for it in the statements of the interpreters or linguists.
