The answer

Marriage and polygyny are legitimate rights for a man who is financially and psychologically capable. Illness or infertility are not conditions for polygyny. Nevertheless, polygyny is a project that requires deliberation and consideration of its pros and cons. The marital relationship is not based solely on rights and duties, but also on excellence (ihsan) and good companionship. The wife has the right to fear for her home, but she does not have the right to prevent her husband from what Allah has made lawful for him. It is suggested that the spouses agree on a grace period during which the wife prepares for the new situation, and they might be blessed with a child during this time. If this does not happen, then the wife should not be an obstacle to her husband's desire for offspring.
