What is the ruling on visiting shrines such as those of Sayyida Zaynab and al-Husayn, and is it forbidden to supplicate through them and to say in one's prayers: "O Allah, by the right of our Master Muhammad and the People of his Household, and by the right of Sayyida Zaynab, and by the secret of al-Fatihah"?

Visiting graves is recommended at any time, and there is no difference between the graves of prophets or righteous people. It is permissible to single out a specific grave for visitation. As for visiting shrines and maqams, there is a detailed explanation. Undertaking a journey (shadd al-rihal) to visit the graves of awliya (saints) and righteous people is a matter of disagreement, and the preponderant opinion prohibits it based on the hadith: "Journeys should not be undertaken except to three mosques." As for supplicating to awliya, circumambulating their graves, and offering sacrifices to them, this is disbelief (kufr). Seeking intercession through them or their status (jah) is a matter of disagreement, and the preponderant opinion prohibits it. Seeking intercession through the secret of Al-Fatiha is permissible if the intention is to seek intercession through the words and attributes of Allah, but it is more appropriate to avoid this specific phrasing as it was not transmitted from the Salaf.
