There is a disagreement concerning the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, about two people being tormented, one for not being careful about urine and the other for backbiting. The disagreement revolves around whether the Prophet saw the torment with his own eyes or whether Allah Almighty informed him of it. The opinion of the companion is that the Prophet saw it with his own eyes, arguing that animals see torment, while the other opinion is that Allah informed him of it because the Hadith did not mention the Prophet seeing the torment.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) spoke about the incident when he passed by two graves and heard the sounds of their occupants being tormented. He informed that one of them did not protect himself from urine (meaning, was not careful about splashes of urine), and the other used to spread malicious gossip. Then he placed a broken palm branch on each grave to alleviate their torment. Other hadiths also confirm that the Prophet and other creatures, except humans, can hear the torment of the grave. The Prophet also described a dream in which he saw scenes of torment for those who committed sins, such as those who abandon prayer, liars, fornicators, and usurers. He also saw Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in a garden with children who died upon the natural disposition (fitra), and people who had mixed good deeds with bad ones, whom Allah forgave.
