Is the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, speaking in this Hadith about forms of the torment of the Barzakh, and what are those torments?
The punishment of the Barzakh (interim period between death and resurrection) has been established in prophetic hadiths, among them the hadith of Samurah ibn Jundub concerning the Prophet's vision (peace be upon him):
- The liar whose lie spreads has the corner of his mouth torn to the back of his head.
- The one who neglects the Qur'an after memorizing it has his head smashed.
- Fornicators are burned in a hole like an oven.
- Those who consume usury swim in a river of blood and are pelted with stones.
Then the Prophet saw Ibrahim (peace be upon him) with the children of the people around him, and Malik, the guardian of Hellfire, and the abode of the general believers, then the abode of the martyrs. He was informed that his station was the highest, but he had not yet completed his life's span.
